Frequent questions

What’s the difference between your curricula offerings?

Our Social Communication Curriculum (SCC) consists of materials targeted for use in 1:1 and small groups. These materials are intended for students with specific social and pragmatic IEP goals, generally those receiving Tier 3 intervention. If you have been with us for many years, you are likely using our SCC!

Our Social-Emotional Learning Curriculum (SEL) is designed for universal, whole-class implementation. It includes all-new, never-before-seen materials that you won’t get in our SCC subscription. This curriculum can be used as Tier 1 support. It also includes support bundles (with supplemental SCC materials) for Tier 2 and 3 SEL instruction. Our SEL curriculum truly embodies our goal of providing SEL for all!

In some use cases, both curricula are appropriate. If you’re a social worker or other specialist who oversees whole-class SEL and small group therapy, you may be a fit for our Bundled Curricula (SCC+SEL).

How does the SEL (Social-Emotional Learning) Curriculum Work?

We offer a 40-week grade-by-grade curriculum for students in Pre-K through grade 5 (Grades 6-12 will be available in 2023!).

Each grade has five units, which align with the CASEL 5 competencies. Within these units are eight lessons, which contain videos, discussion prompts, and assessments to help students develop a full understanding of each topic.

How does the Social Communications Curriculum (SCC) work?

Our Social Communication Curriculum (SCC) is organized by broad skills, such as “Emotional Recognition.” Within those skills, we’ve included various goals, such as “Identifying Feelings.” These goals and skills align with IEP goals, and are organized into three difficulty levels:

Emergent: This is a good place to start if your learner is under the age of 7 or is brand new to a skill (i.e. it’s the first time they’ve started to work on it).

Intermediate: This level of material is best for learners between the ages of 7-12 who can perform a skill with some help or who have been working on a skill for some time and are ready for the next level of difficulty.

Advanced: This level is best for learners ages 12+ who are ready to be challenged by a skill. They may be able to perform the skill with a small amount of help or perform the skill on their own in some settings, but not all. For example, an individual may understand when adults use sarcasm, but not when their peers use it.

We also label materials by grade level, Pre-K through high school, based on the difficulty of the skills, the age of the actors, and vocabulary use. Scenes are reflective of the intended age group.

We understand that all learners are individuals with different needs, so we make it easy to filter our materials depending on what you are looking for. We provide descriptions in each of our materials with guidance around selecting what is right for your learner.

Like all of our curriculum offerings, our SCC curriculum is based on the well-researched tenants of video modeling. Our games, activities, and worksheets help to promote engagement and drive home the concepts in our videos.
